I’m a little shocked to see that What is past… has become one of those statistics of blog failure- but never fear, Spring fever has got into me and I’m going to try and resurrect things! I’ve also changed jobs since I was writing this, and so would like to de-anonymise myself. I’m still quite private, (which explained the pseudonym,) I’m still the only person under 30 without a Facebook account, and I still staunchly support NO2ID. And my fear of Google’s tentacle-like appropriation of data remains! However my name is Alison and I’m a Humanities Research and Instruction Librarian at the University of Colorado. I’m excited to see how long I can keep this going this year…
So, I suddenly came up with the idea for the blog after sitting through yet another seminar full of questions about the future of e-collections. Why is it that Librarians are very good at asking questions and not so good with practical, meaty answers? Is it because we help people start their research and do very little of our own? Whatever the reason, I want to explore practical answers. Cogitating and ruminating is all very well, but “ya basta”, “si se puede” and all that!
I am also kind of inspired by Library Journal’s Movers and Shakers. So, yes, M&S is hardly up there with the Nobel Prize or Gore Vidal’s Greek Cultural Association Cultural Prize, but, it’s kind of cool to see people addressing everyday issues with practical ideas, instead of questions. Don’t get me wrong, questions are important, BUT, I’m too impatient to sit around.
